매년 5월 마지막 주 월요일은 미국의 공휴일 Memorial Day 입니다

올해는 5월31일이었는대요

메모리얼데이는 1868년에 있었던 남북전쟁때 희생된 군인들을 기리기 위한 날로 처음에는 만들어 졌으나

1882년 부터는 1차대전 이후 전쟁에서 사망한 모든 장병을 기리기위한 날로 바뀌었답니다.

 

바이든 대통령도 알링턴 국립묘지에가서 메모리얼데이를 기념했는대요

메모리얼데이 연설에서 민주주의를 향한 메세지를 강력하게 주장했답니다

투표제한법을 겨냥해서 한말이 아닐까 WSJ기자는 보고 있습니다

 

공화당은 투표제한법이 공정한 투표를 만들어 낼 것이라고 하는 반면

민주당은 투표를 어렵게 만들것이라고 주장하며

두 당이 팽팽하게 의견을 대립하고 있기 때문에

바이든 대통령은 미주주의를 수호하기 위해 죽은 군인을 기리며

또한 민주주의의 상징 중 하나인 투표권을 겨냥해 발언한 것이 아닌가 생각이 듭니다
